Equator Coffees & Teas was expanding into the historic Warfield Building on Market Street, and needed to marry the old structure’s beauty with their existing retail aesthetic. With the help of Rossi Builders, Equator’s downtown cafe does just that. Its chic interior looks like it could house an art gallery as easily as it houses premium coffees and teas. And in fact, it does—a mural by Mona Caron grows out from the shop’s corner, balancing and warming the minimalist concrete interior.

The renovated storefront combines industrial elements that give the shop a cultured, artistic feel. Its high ceilings with exposed ductwork make the space feel open and airy, while bare concrete walls and pillars provide a shabby chic backdrop. We crafted the coffee bar out of wood and marbled sheathing, and the white cinder block wall behind it is irregularly peppered with display shelves featuring exotic blends and brews. Contrasted with the vibrant greens from Caron’s mural, the result is a gorgeous, functional space that helps Equator Coffees & Teas keep the Financial District caffeinated throughout the workday.
